Job William White's bible.
This story starts with a gentleman
named John Bennett buying an old bible in a charity shop about 10
years ago (2006). Some years later his daughter found an article in the
South Wales Argus which published a story aboy Job and John decided that
it was time to return the bible back to the family.
Private Job William White was
killed on that fareful day during the 2nd Battle of Ypres that took the
lives of about 230 men from the three battalions of the Monmouthshire
regiments on the 8th May 1915. Newport lost over 80 men on this day, the
greatest amount of men to be lost in a single day from any Welsh town or
city. In the photo below of the men of the 1st Bn. Mons, Job can
be seen highlighted at the front.

John then managed to contack
Philip Martin a relative of Job's and eventually a hundred years after
Job's death, his bible was returned to his family.
