Notes for WILLIAM GILLARD: William was aged 83 at the time of his death. His address was 62, Wharf Road, Newport. He died at the Royal Gwent Hospital. At the time of the death of his first wife Frances, he was working as a coal miner. He later went to work at a Aluminum works. Between 1895 and 1900 William served with the South Wales Borderers in South Africa. It is said in the family that he was a drummer boy and is age at the time being 16 may go some way to prove this. He died from (a) Myocardial degeneration, )b) Chronic Bronchitis and (c) Chronic Cholecystitis. His death was registered by his son Jack. Williams ashes are buried in the Garden of Rememberance at the Gwent Crematorium in Croesyceiliog, Monmouthshire. The plot number is 12.

Notes for GWYNNETH GWYN GILLARD: Gwynneth was born on December 27, 1910 but her birth certificate states her date of birth as January 6, 1911. The reason that this discrepancie arises is because under law a birth must be registered within six weeks. Many parents in other families who failed to register the birth in the allotted time period, then changed the real date of birth so that the one registered fell in this six week time period and so Gwynneth's date of birth on her certificate is false.
